To achieve this qualification, students must complete 15 units of competency, including:
• 5 core units (listed on the right)
• 1 driver awareness elective unit
• 9 general elective units

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, to ensure learners can safely and effectively participate in training and assessment, the following requirements apply:
- Must hold a current Australian driver licence
- Meet the licensing eligibility requirements for the relevant licence class (e.g. MR, HR, HC)
- Meet the minimum age requirement
- Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to:
- Read and interpret road rules, workplace procedures, and safety signage
- Complete written assessments, logbooks, and workplace documentation
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, customers, and regulatory authorities
- An LLN assessment may be conducted prior to enrolment to identify support needs
- Be physically fit to safely operate a commercial vehicle
- be able to comply with WHS requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe manual handling practices
Intake and Duration
Intake:
Enrolments are available throughout the year. At commencement, each student is provided with an individual training plan that identifies the units to be completed, including any eligible Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or credit transfer, and any required gap training.
Duration:
The course is structured over 36 weeks, with up to 12 months allowed to complete all training and assessment. Extensions may be granted in special circumstances.
The actual time to complete the qualification may vary depending on RPL, credit transfer, and the amount of gap training required. Each student’s expected completion timeframe is documented in their training plan.
